Inauguration Excitement
This a life event for me....
I don't know about you, but I've never been as excited about the inauguration of a president of the United States as I am about Barack Obama's upcoming swearing in on Tuesday, January 20.
Mr. Obama will be the 13th president inaugurated in my lifetime (so far!). I don't recall anything about FDR's 1945 inauguration, or Harry Truman 's in 1949 -- I was, after all, once very young -- and all the rest of those frigid January noontimes in Washington, D.C. are retained in my brain as hazy memories, at best.
But this inauguration of Barack Obama, I'm sure I'll remember.
I won't go to Washington for the event. I will, however, sit in front of a television set when Joe Biden, and then Barack Obama take their oaths of office. I'll be listening intently as our new president delivers his inaugural address, and sets the future course for our nation. And I'll join millions of Americans as I toast to his and his new administration's success.
Twelve noon here on the east coast seems a bit early to be honoring our new president with champagne or a like beverage, and many of you celebrating in time zones to the west will probably consider an alcoholic libation even more inappropriate. For my part, on that Tuesday midday, as the band strikes up ruffles and flourishes and then Hail to the Chief, I'll be lifting high a mug of our delicious Longfellow's Coffee Obama Blend and wishing Mr. Obama, you and all Americans the very best.
